As an active Chartered Financial Planner, my day-to-day job is delivering Financial Planning. It’s the best job in the world! I love understanding a client’s life; looking at the picture of their current finances and seeing how it fits with their goals for the future. My client relationships are built with understanding, empathy and trust and that means we can make changes over time to help them achieve what they want in life, with confidence. It gives great client outcomes.

I am also Director of Client Services in my firm so I oversee the delivery of Financial Planning by our advisory and paraplanning team. It’s amazing to help people grow and develop their own skills in this area; loving the profession and job the way I do.

Initially, I joined the PFS Financial Planning Practitioner Panel to support an initiative in bringing the power of Financial Planning to more financial advisers. It’s an exciting time in our profession; the demographic and culture of our nation means an increasing number of people are seeking a meaningful use of their money and focusing increasingly on experiences rather than investment returns for the sake of it. This means the Financial Planning profession is going from strength to strength and ensuring we are well placed to provide this service in order to meet our clients’ needs is vital.

However, being part of the Panel has turned into something so much more than that. It’s a team in its own right that has provided me with development and learning and let me see and understand more of the challenges and benefits in collectively delivering this service to clients through the lens of our professional body and other members of the Panel from all areas of financial services. It really is a privilege to serve our profession in this way.

I believe Financial Planning has the power to changes lives:

  • It can give a person the confidence to take steps to lead the lifestyle they want without fear or worry
  • It provides a reassurance and a safety net for clients and loved ones throughout life’s hardest times
  • It is a hugely satisfying and rewarding career which has certainly changed my life.
